Capitalism Rules (Hopefully)

The quote below is courtesy of Fox News:

Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, said these fiery words to a delegation of bankers in 1832:

“Gentlemen, I have had men watching you for a long time, and I am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter, I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out.”

Personally, I hope that a bailout package for Wall Street and a few “elite” corporations is never passed. I am incredibly impressed by those in the House of Representatives who did not cower to political pressure and voted against the bailout package. Thank you for listening to your constituents. I’m not sure I can ever remember a time where the elected officials of the people actually listened and voted the way the general populace wished. I hope it is a new trend that will continue!

Small town America and small businesses will survive. Most of us already know how to operate our households and businesses without credit or large sums of cash. It’s the big corporations who are so out of touch with reality that will suffer and (hopefully) be allowed to go out of business. Yes, it will affect us…but in the long run, it’s worth it.

Long live the free market economy and true capitalism.
